Penrith’s new shopping centre, New Squares opened in June 2013.The centre is anchored by a 55,000 sq ft Sainsbury’s foodstore and benefits from the town’s largest free car park.

New Squares has been designed to extend Penrith town centre and complement the traditional architecture that makes Penrith so aesthetically appealing whilst providing modern shop units suiting the requirements of today’s retailers.

Thomas Armstrong the Main Contractor for the development together with Sykes Specialist Contracting discussed the render options available to meet the budget and technical requirements of the project, satisfying the planners and the need to ensure the system selected was fit for purpose.

The STO Rend cote system was selected comprising of a cementitious base coat and a silicone top coat. The STO system was selected due to the excellent weathering characteristics of the silicone top coat and its ability to be self cleansing.

Sykes Specialist Contracting Ltd installed approximately 14000m2 of STO rend Cote over a period of 7 months.
